Paper seed pots

Cylindrical plant receptacles February 2024
Cartridge paper, paper clips & felt tipped pens

In planning a project based on environmental concerns, I decided to give drawings of things related to the theme of the project a meaningful function by converting them into small pots to germinate seeds. I made experimental origami pots; chatterboxes (salt cellars), square boxes, cups and boats, filled them with compost and seeds, and placed them outside to see what would happen.

First group of test pots December 2023
Coriander seeds
Despite the pleasing visual aspects of this first test, the seeds did not germinate due to unsuitable compost and other factors.
Third group of test pots late January 2024
Mung beans, peas
In greenhouse with water 3x/week
After germination early February 2024
First batch of peas, mung beans in peat moss
This third experiment (a second using different but still unsuitable compost was unsuccessful) provides encouragement for the future of this project.
Second batch of peas, mid March 2024
The cylindrical pots from the top photo in this post can be seen top right in this photograph. Unfortunately the seeds in them did not germinate: I'm experimenting further.
